R. Alan King is an award winning author and a renowned speaker on terrorism, 21st century security matters, counterinsurgency, cultural warfare and Middle Eastern geopolitical issues. He is also the president and CEO of Consequence Management, Inc., a service disabled veteran-owned business. He has appeared on the NBC Nightly News, CNN, PBS Frontline, and the Fox News Channel among others. His work has been profiled on NBC, NPR, MSNBC, and in the National Journal, Newsday, Christian Science Monitor, Washington Times, Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Harper's, U.S. News and World report, New York Times, and other publications. He has advised Congressional leaders and served as an advisor to senior leaders in the Departments of Defense and State. Mr. King has testified before the House of Representatives, Subcommittee for National Security on the security situation in Iraq. In July 2004, Mr. King returned from Iraq after spending 16 months, first as a Civil Affairs battalion commander, and then as the Deputy Director of the Office of Provincial Outreach, Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq. While in Iraq, Mr. King was credited with leading the Coalition’s Tribal Affairs and Sunni outreach programs, meeting over 3,000 sheikhs and clerics. In April 2004, King served as a senior member of the ceasefire talks in Fallujah and was then dispatched to An Najaf to coordinate with tribal sheikhs in response to the uprising led by the radical cleric, Muktada Al-Sadr. For his efforts, Mr. King’s unit became the most decorated Civil Affairs battalion in the history of the U.S. Army and he was personally awarded two Bronze Star Medals for Valor. Mr. King returned from his most recent service in Iraq in October 2007. In addition to his service in Iraq, Mr. King has a distinguished military background in the U.S. Army, including active duty tours in Honduras and then in Panama in support of Operation Just Cause. He was promoted to the rank of colonel in the Army Reserves. Mr. King holds Masters of Art degrees in International Relations and Management from Webster University and a Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Air War College. Mr. King has received recognition and numerous honors for his achievements and contributions to intelligence operations and international relations. Mr. King authored the book titled Twice Armed: An American Soldier’s Battle for Hearts and Minds in Iraq, released by Zenith Press, September 2006. Twice Armed was awarded the 2008 William E. Colby Military Writer’s Award. |
